Camo was made to help you disappear. To blend in. To go unnoticed. To keep you from being seen.
But what if you weren’t made to blend in? What if growth actually requires the opposite? What if you have to be willing to be seen?
That idea kept coming up in a recent meeting at Yes! Athletics as we talked about our new Pink Camo wrestling shoe.
Because there’s something wonderfully contradictory about bright pink camouflage. It’s camo — but nobody is hiding in it. And maybe that’s the point.
Growth Requires Being Seen
It’s easy to look strong when you stay comfortable. It’s easy to protect your record when you only compete against people you know you can beat. It’s easy to feel successful when you’re the best athlete in the room.
But if you want to level up, you have to walk into a room where someone is better than you. You have to wrestle the girl who makes you nervous. Enter the tournament where you might not make the podium. Try the move you haven’t mastered yet.
Put yourself in situations where your weaknesses might actually be seen.
That’s uncomfortable. It’s also where growth happens.
Your Competition Isn’t the Enemy
One of the biggest mindset shifts in sports — and in business — is realizing that great competition isn’t something to fear.
Great competition is a gift.
· The wrestler who exposes the hole in your defense shows you what to fix Monday.
· The girl who pushes a pace you can’t maintain yet shows you where your conditioning needs to go.
· The athlete who beats you today may be the reason you’re better six months from now.
Your toughest competitors can become your greatest teachers. Not because losing feels good — it doesn’t. But because being challenged forces you to become something you weren’t before.
Better competition builds better competitors.
Stop Protecting the Record
There’s a temptation in sports to protect the win-loss column. Find the easier tournament. Avoid the toughest bracket. Stay where you’re already successful.
But there’s a difference between building a record and building an athlete.
Sometimes leveling up means choosing the competition that might beat you. Because the goal isn’t to look unbeatable. The goal is to become better.
That requires enough confidence to say: Put me in the hard bracket. Let me wrestle the best girl here. Let me find out where I really am.
And then — win or lose — go back to work.
Iron Sharpens Iron
There’s a reason I love the biblical idea that “iron sharpens iron.”
We sharpen each other.
The people who challenge us, push us, compete with us, and refuse to let us stay comfortable can bring out another level in us.
That’s true in wrestling. It’s true in business. It’s true in leadership. And it’s true in life.
I’ve learned that the people who make me stretch aren’t standing in my way. Sometimes they’re showing me the way forward.
Competition doesn’t diminish someone else’s success for yours to matter. Her getting better can force you to get better. Your improvement can force the next girl to get better.
And suddenly the entire room rises.
Women’s Wrestling Is Leveling Up
That’s one of the most exciting things happening in women’s wrestling right now.
As more girls enter the sport, the rooms get deeper. The brackets get tougher. The expectations get higher.
Girls have more opportunities to train with other girls who challenge them. And the standard keeps rising.
That’s exactly what we should want.
We don’t need fewer great female wrestlers so one athlete can stand out. We need more of them.
We need girls pushing girls. Champions creating future champions.
Athletes looking across the mat and thinking: “She’s good.” And instead of shrinking from that challenge: “Good. Let’s go.”
And That Brings Us Back to Camo
When we designed our Pink Camo wrestling shoe, I loved the contradiction before I even had words for it.
Traditional camouflage says: Don’t see me. Pink Camo says: Here I am.
See me enter the bracket. See me take the risk. See me wrestle someone better than me. See me fail. See me learn. See me come back. See me level up.
Because confidence isn’t making sure nobody ever sees you struggle. Confidence is being willing to be seen while you’re becoming.
Camo Was Made to Blend In. Champions Were Made to Stand Out.
For decades, girls in wrestling were expected to adapt to a sport and products that weren’t built with them in mind.
At Yes! Athletics, we decided to do something different. We build for her.
And Pink Camo might be the clearest expression of that attitude yet.
It’s bold. It’s unapologetically feminine. And it was never designed to disappear.
Neither was she.
So find the better room. Choose the harder competition. Take the match that scares you a little. Let yourself be seen before you’re perfect.
Don’t blend in. Be seen. Level up.
